For the second week in a row, the open men and women fielded strong teams and the masters sat it out. The open men looked particularly strong, taking places 6-9. Details . . .
Byline Melissa Haahr
The second stop on the PA cross country circuit was the Phil Widener Empire XC Open in Santa Rosa. Five women made the trek out to race on the 3.43 mile course in Spring Lake Regional Park (or maybe people made the trek in order to eat those delicious bacon brownies that Diann brought for Chikara’s birthday!!). Melissa Haahr finished in 22:48 and 20th place overall. Denise Barchas battled a mountain lion and a stomach cramp during her race, finishing in 52nd place overall with a time of 25:57. Diann Leo, still recovering from the 50k and rolling her ankle, finished in 26:47 , 61st place overall. Jennifer Norman camped out with her family the night before to join in on the xc fun! Jennifer finished in 27:16 for 70th place overall. Denise Leo was 78th overall with a finishing time of 27:43. Overall, there were 96 women in the race. The women placed 5th as a team in the open women’s division, and scored 9 points for the PA Grand Prix.. Another great performance from Excelsior women and it was awesome to have another complete team out there! Next stop: Rebels XC Challenge in Sacramento! We currently have two confirmed and two maybe’s if we can find a fifth! (Last year Excelsior scored 4th place at Rebels xc)
Waiting for Bobby to finish the write-up ….
